Recently, a lot of students are being overloaded with schoolwork. Some of them think that schoolwork can help their academic grades, while some of them think it can’t. From my perspective, schoolwork is definitely necessary. But it shouldn’t be everything.
First, I will explain why schoolwork is necessary. Doing schoolwork is an effective way to revise the skills you’ve learnt before. If we don’t have schoolwork, we will forget the things we’ve learnt quickly. If you want to learn a skill thoroughly, you need to learn how to revise and apply this skill. Schoolwork is a perfect way for you to revise and apply skills, so it’s very significant.
You might be thinking, if we had more schoolwork, would it make our grades even better? Well, that’s not always the case, and it could make things even worse. You see, after school, there’s not much time left. If there’s too much schoolwork, students need to finish late at night. This causes a lack of sleep. Research says that if we don’t have enough sleep, our brains will be less conscious. We can’t focus on learning in class. Not paying attention in class will drastically lower the efficiency of learning.
Overloaded schoolwork can also cause us to lose motivation for learning. After performing an overwhelming amount of schoolwork, students will feel extremely tired. They’ll think that learning is a very boring and difficult challenge. Hence, they lose patience and motivation for learning, which once again lowers learning efficiency.
Also, I think that overloaded schoolwork will cause students to finish their assignments in an inappropriate way. Think about it, if you want to finish your assignments immediately, will you find shortcuts to finish them quicker? That’s exactly what students are thinking. They will find ways to finish schoolwork faster, like copying from others, finding answers online, or doing schoolwork in a non-serious way. This will not help them with their grades.
In conclusion, school is meant to help students increase their academic grades, so a meaningful amount of homework is necessary. But once there is too much, it won’t help their grades and may even cause the opposite effect.

Your article gives a balanced and thoughtful view about schoolwork. I agree that homework is important for revising and practicing what we’ve learned, but too much can be harmful. You explained well how overload can lead to tiredness, loss of motivation, and even shortcuts that hurt learning. Your examples and explanations make your points clear and relatable. Finding a good balance is truly the key to effective learning. Well done!
